Ben awaits results

Bradford-based Advanced Supply Chain’s Operations Director, Ben Balfour, will find out on Wednesday 03rd June if he is awarded with the coveted title of Industry Champion at the 2015 Freight Transport Association everywoman in Transports and Logistics Awards.

The Awards recognise the talents of remarkable women in the transport and logistics sector, and the work of those individuals who encourage the role of women in the industry.

The winners will be unveiled at a ceremony next Wednesday at the London Hilton on Park Lane, in front of over 400 industry leaders.

Ben, 44, started his career at Advanced more than 22 years ago, straight from university. His first role was on the shop floor and throughout his career at Advanced he has progressed to his current position as part of the senior management team.

Before he became Operations Director, he built the team at Holmfield and has grown this site with the help of his team to the £8million turnover it is today and many of the key roles in Production, QC, Business Development, Account Management & HR are fulfilled by female members of staff.

Ben said: “I am truly delighted to be shortlisted for this award, and to gain recognition within the industry. I am without doubt that I wouldn’t have been shortlisted for this award, nor have progressed in my career as I have without the committed team, past and present, at Advanced Supply Chain.

“I also think it is fantastic that there is a ceremony to champion the role of women in our industry and to encourage a more diverse talent pool.”

Mike Danby, CEO of Advanced Supply Chain, said: “Ben is a champion for the industry. He leads his teams well and has demonstrated with his career path that the choice he made to join Advanced over 20 years ago was the right one.

“Ben is trusted by the board of directors to assist in the day to day running of the business due to his innovative and agile approach to ways of working, both with external and internal customers.”

The FTA everywoman in Transport & Logistics Awards were established eight years ago, and today the programme is more essential than ever: with population growth predicted to continue, our infrastructure has never been more important and this in turn has created jobs and career opportunities. By championing women already excelling such as these finalists, everywoman and its partners hope to encourage more into the sector, to plug the skills-gap and ensure a more diverse, population-representative workforce.

David Wells, Chief Executive Officer, FTA adds: “The Freight Transport Association is proud to be the title partner of the prestigious FTA everywoman in Transport & Logistics Awards 2015. These Awards encourage forward-thinking companies that are committed to introducing diversity to the freight industry, and showcase how women can make a career in transport a successful and fulfilling one. The key for the logistics industry is to be able to access a wider talent pool to be able to meet its needs for good qualify staff in whichever role it needs to fill, and working with everywoman offers FTA opportunities to expand that work.”

Maxine Benson MBE, co-founder of everywoman, comments, “Today’s announcement comes as the transport industry seeks to enhance its image as one that offers exciting opportunities to all women, from young women entering the workforce to those returning after a career break. This year’s finalists are the role models who demonstrate the industry is open to all backgrounds and skill-sets and that it welcomes talented and ambitious women. We know these finalists will inspire others to follow in their footsteps.”
